Where to go to download old macOS Legacy

There seems to be multitude of sites to go to for this information, not all of it reliable.

So any macOS that is from High Sierra 10.13 you can go to the App Store to download them. You do need a Apple ID as it’s going to request that before you can download the software.

There are other sites but the direct link from Apple will point you to the links for the macOS downloads. You can if you like a bit of a challenge and have a build server running MDS from Two Canoes download from their portal direct to the build server.

They also have a direct link to the beta versions of current MacOS which is a nice feature if you have not signed up to the developers version and beta programme direct from Apple. Remember MDS version 4 is still free later versions you have to pay.

Mac OS direct download url from the App Store:

Web Browser Older Versions of the Mac Operating System

If you after older versions of macOS (pre dated the App Store) you have to download the macOS image (.dmg) and run the package which will allow you to select one of the old macOS Sierra 10.12 – Lion 10.7. Make sure you select from Apple the Operating system you require so you get the correct DMG file. For Snow Leopard its a search the internet as it came as a disc and was not available online. Leopard is the same. I do keep a version of both for the old job that comes in for real legacy Mac hardware jobs. Last one I did was over 12 months ago for a old Mac mini that needed Leopard installed for a sound card software programme. The Software was the easy task finding that type of old hard drive was interesting to source. FYI MDS build server wont help you download the legacy versions of macOS that pre-date the App Store.

Anyhow hopefully you found this useful.
