If you get a firmware error ” Epson Device Recovery Mode, Update Firmware” for an Epson WorkForce WF printer. Here we go through some tips to restore the printer to normal mode. The printer I encounter the issue was a WF-2930 however I am believe this is an issue across the board.

Process of how to fix it.
If you are getting the message “Enter Recovery Mode” or something similar follow this process.
Turn off the printer.
Hold Stop + Left + Down + Power. (You need two people to do this with easy as the power option can be an issue plugging back in.

Keep holding until the display shows “PROG UPDATE MODE”.
If you see a different message, turn the printer off and try again.
Connect via USB
Connect the printer to your PC or Mac with a USB cable. Make sure the Mac is on a newer os. I used a iMac using Venture to get this to work, previous macOS did not work.
Wi-Fi does not work in this mode.
Download firmware
Go to: https://archive.org/details/fwck-63-tl-ip-19-p-6 for the model WF-2930
On the right, under Download Options, click Show all.
Download the file for your system:
Windows: FWCK63TL_IP19P6.exe (~19.2 MB)
macOS: FWCK63TL_IP19P6.dmg (~23.6 MB)

Run the updater
On Windows: run FWCK63TL_IP19P6.exe and follow the instructions.
On macOS: open FWCK63TL_IP19P6.dmg and run the installer.
Once completed do a reboot of the printer which should boot into normal mode. If not then redo the key button reboot
