Migration assistance How useful is it in a world of the cloud

I have encountered serval issues of late with trying to migrate a “old” os to a new machine running MacOS 26. The old softwares vary from Big Sur, Monterey and Ventura. The software program allows connects either via Thunderbolt 2/3 wifi (very slow) and ethernet. The issue at hand is the software seems too old to do the transfer it just hangs on the building the database. If you try a later version it seems to kick in and the transfer is done with very little easy.

OpenCore Legacy Patcher explained

OpenCore Legacy Patcher (OCLP) is a free, open-source tool developed by the Dortania team that allows users to install and run modern versions of macOS on older Mac computers that Apple no longer officially supports.

Apple typically drops support for older Mac models after about 7–8 years (sometimes longer for security patches), meaning those Macs can’t install newer macOS releases like Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia, or the latest (as of February 2026, macOS Tahoe 26.x). OCLP changes that by “patching” the installation and boot process to make newer macOS versions boot and function on unsupported hardware.
