The zoom function on a mac has been around for awhile and I have enjoyed using it on my MacBook Pro with the trackpad and the pinch method (index figure and thumb) to zoom in and out of a safari page. The issue I have found is what to do when you dont have a trackpad to use that method?
Command Line to Create USB OSX Stick
As many people are aware creating a USB installer for OSX is ideal for any IT Engineer. I have spent many hours searching for the terminal command to create a USB Bootable memory stick.
To simplify I am assuming you know what terminal is,you have a USB stick (8GB or more), have formatted it to untiled in disk utility and finally downloaded the latest version of the Mac OS you want an installer for. All you need is the terminal command to run the installer to create the USB Installer.
VPN L2TP Connection issues with Windows machines connecting to OSX Servers
If anyone has any dealings with OSX Server Licence 5.1 and above for El Capitan or MacOSX Sierra (10.11 or 10.12) will have come across PPTP is no more. For VPN you have L2TP as your only option. This is not a issue and it is a lot more secure than PPTP. Always ensuring the correct ports are open for it to work.

Backup your machine
Your Hard Drive will fail, even the SSD as for a time frame anything from the warranty of the machine to 10 years later. I personally have hard drives which have been working now coming on to 12 years. (I hope I have not jinxed that) With that vital piece of information you should be looking at how you backup your computer whether its a laptop or a iPad. Now we break down what are the options.
Virus software
I am afraid gone are the days when Macs seemed to be impervious to virus. In the past 4 months I have seen a influx of malware, adware and spyware virus’s which have compromised a number of client machines both business and home users. People have been drawn into installing software programs such as Mackeeper to help improve the performance of their machine and identify “problems” within the machine before it affects the work flow of the end user. The really annoying thing about these programs is the easy that they are available while surfing the net. Continue reading “Virus software”

Virtual Windows
Recently I installed the latest version of Windows on my Mac using the program Parallels. The process was easy and it all worked. It then got me thinking what options are there for Mac users to run windows only based applications. Here are the options out there:
Email which one ?
What Email app do you use on your mac?
I currently use Apple Mail, I have always used Apple Mail since I moved away from Microsoft Exchange back in 2007. I have tried out thunderbird both for windows and mac and have found it a great program. It works and the latest version looks great (mac version) The windows version (windows 8.1) is nice but there is something about thunderbird for mac which looks rather nice compared with windows. On their website they are advertising 10 years of thunderbird. So you are looking at a programme that has got 10 years of updates working with both POP3 and IMAP technologies from its infancy to where we are now.
