Legacy Version of OneDrive for macOS

For anyone working on a Legacy version of the macOS running Office 365 though there is a work around for Office OneDrive is a different story.

​Microsoft phased out support for older versions of macOS in its OneDrive sync app since August 2024, the minimum required macOS version is macOS 13. When you install say build 16.88 (last know version for Monterey) it installs the latest version of OneDrive which then has the no entry sign in the apps folder.


Official downloads of previous OneDrive versions are not readily available however, if you’ve previously installed OneDrive via the Mac App Store, you can attempt to download a compatible legacy version:

  • Open the App Store on your Mac
  • Click on your account at the bottom of the page
  • Click the download button. If the current version isn’t compatible with your macOS, a prompt should appear offering to download the last compatible version.

Time Machine may have a backup of the app so they could restore a legacy version or the other method is go to the link from Microsoft forums that someone has a workable legacy version of OneDrive you can download and install.

On this method make sure you have deleted the no entry OneDrive App from applications before installing this version. It also might be worth delete the Recycle Bin.

Oh and don’t run a Microsoft Software update as it will write over it with the latest version. What would be handy is if the app could identify your macOS and work with the compatible version for the machine, however that does not seem to be the case.

Note: Legacy versions of OneDrive may expose you to security vulnerabilities and compatibility issues. It’s advisable to consider updating your macOS to a supported version if possible or exploring alternative cloud storage solutions that support your current system.
